barcelona beachesWithin the north eastern province of Tarragona, Salou is  fortunate to be amongst a handful of fascinating tourist attractions on the Costa Dorada.

Salou is a popular Spanish beach destination that’s great for all ages. Pretty much guaranteed sunshine and soft golden sands await, but what else can you do while in Salou?

The PortAventura parks are impossible to miss in Salou, with a theme park and a waterpark to keep kids young and old amused. Visit the five countries of Mediterrania, Polynesia, China, Mexico and the Far West, and their individual attractions and rides, as well as keeping an eye out for Woody Woodpecker and Sesame Street characters for the kids.

The PortAventura waterpark is nearby, and buying a ticket for both parks can work out to be better value.

Aquopolis is another of Salou’s fantastic waterparks – with a great value ticket price. As well as the usual flumes and rapids you can also take in a fantastic dolphin show.

The Dancing Fountains

port aventuraThis beachfront attraction is completely free – which is sure to be good news for those who like to keep costs low where they can. Balance your holiday budget by combining expensive days out with free attractions like this wonderful light, sound and colour show, on Salou’s Llevant beachfront, at 10pm each night.

A Day Out in Barcelona

Salou has a small station where you can jump on a train and be in Barcelona in under an hour. The journey takes in a lot of coast and is especially picturesque in itself, before you’ve even got to the fantastic Spanish city with its magical architecture, great beaches and bustling vibe.

There’s so much to do in and around Salou that it’s a shame to confine yourself to the poolside for the duration of your holidays. Forget the sunlounger and get out and about in this fabulous Spanish coastal destination.
